Study Links Prenatal Exposure to Chemicals to a Higher BMI in Toddlers
The other day, a colleague of mine sent me over the results from a recent study that sghows a link between higher body mass index (BMI) in toddlers, and the mothers' prenatal exposure to environmental pollutants, such as pesticides found on the foods we eat [1].
The study, conducted by the journal, Environmental Health Perspectives, concluded that there is a direct link between prenatal chemical exposure and birth weight/length.
Sadly, this is yet another example of the growing amount of scientific data supporting the knowledge that toxic chemicals are all around us and have an extremely negative effect, not only on our bodies, but also the bodies of our unborn children.
Forms of harmful chemicals such as pesticides, chemical sprays on the food we eat, DDEs and PCBs are directly related to the malfunctioning of our endocrine systems. If young children are exposed to these chemicals from an early age, it should come as no surprise that their endocrine systems will be weakened.
Why We Need to 'Detoxify' our Lives
Editor of the journal, Hugh A. Tilson, PhD stated:
"With childhood obesity continuing to increase at an alarming rate, this study is an important step in assessing possible mechanisms by which pollutants may alter energy metabolism early in life."
Studies like this one further confirm our need to detoxify our lives, and clean up our living environments. While today it is impossible to exist in a world without toxins, what we can do is work proactively to reduce toxic overload. This involves detoxing the body, the food we eat, the water we drink, the air we breathe, and the items in our homes.
My latest book The Green Body Cleanse helps people do just that. These easy, at-home solutions allow you to systematically remove chemicals and toxins from your body, home, and office. Chronic symptoms can often be the result of a toxic body, home or work environment. Things such as anxiety, headaches, allergies, fatigue, sleep concerns, skin concerns, depression, or sinus trouble, are now being linked (through more and more scientific studies such as this one) to the toxicity of our living environments.
As I read more and more articles like this one, I am even more encouraged to share our cleansing and "Green Living" products with the world. Especially for pregnant women, it is more important than ever to protect the unborn child from the harmful effects of environmental toxins. Not only can the mother help herself by breathing in healthier air, drinking cleaner water and living in a healthier environment, she will also be helping to create a cleaner, less toxic world for the future of her child.
How To Purify Your Living Environment
In order to begin this process, I encourage you to look into the following areas of your life:
-
Body Cleansing
It is essential to keep the body clean with regular intestinal tract, liver and gallbladder, harmful organism and heavy metal cleansing. -
Air Quality
In our sealed homes and workplaces, we are often breathing in air that is, in fact, more toxic than the air outdoors. Invest in a high-quality air purification system such as the Guardian Air REME+ Air Purification System. -
Water Quality
Sadly, The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that there are some 80 chemicals potentially dangerous in our tap water. Try a home water test kit to find out what toxins are in your water. You should also invest in a high tech, water purifier to reduce toxin levels. -
Stress
Stress at home and in the office may be related to the weakening of our immune systems. Invest some time into a daily walk, meditation, yoga practice or massage. Your body will thank you. -
Radiation
The endless buzz of computers, cell-phones and other electrical equipment in our lives may be progressively weakening the health of the entire nation. Harmful electromagnetic field radiation (EMF) penetrates your body on a daily basis from common devices and machines in your home and office. Avoid the harmful effects of radiation by investing in a radiation protection for your home or office.
I believe that the only way to truly counteract and attack the diseases of today is to address the root cause of disease (toxic overload) and eliminate the source of these disease initiating toxins.
