What Is an Enema?
What are Enemas?
Enemas have been around for a very long time and present the oldest known relief for constipation. It's a simple process: fluid is injected from a bag into the anus. Usually only water is injected, but other liquids and ingredients including herbs, coffee, oil, and clay might be added. "Dry enemas" are also used to clear the bowel. A sterile lubricant is injected into the rectum using a syringe (without a needle). In effect, this process is similar to using suppositories, except faster.
Enemas for Constipation
For occasional constipation, enemas are effective for removing waste trapped in the lowest part of the colon but an enema will not clean the entire colon. Additionally, some people are uncomfortable with inserting something into their anus. With good reason, if done incorrectly, serious damage can occur. That's delicate tissue down there!
For reliving constipation, other options such as oxygen-based colon cleaners are more safe, gentle, and easy.
