Art of Detox Week 2: Cleanse

Last week, you assessed the patterns, habits, and choices that may have been keeping you from feeling your best. You brought awareness to what your body, mind, and spirit have been asking for. Now, it’s time to let go of everything that holds you back so you can make space for renewal.

When you think of the word “cleansing” in the context of detox, you might think of juice diets or lemon-cayenne water concoctions. While these can help detoxify the body, this isn’t exactly the type of cleansing we’re talking about.

This week is about removing mental and physical clutter so wellness has space to flourish. In this article, you’ll find guidance for cleansing, but the specific actions will be unique to you and what you need to let go of.

It can be difficult to change your ways, even when something is no longer serving you. So let’s begin with how to keep going when you feel resistant to release.

When Cleansing Meets Resistance

As you begin to let go of old habits or toxins, you may notice resistance in the form of fatigue, irritability, doubt, or even the urge to quit. These are good signs; signs that change is in motion.

Every living being needs resistance to transform. A seed must break through its shell and push upward through dark, heavy soil to reach the sun. A baby must fall again and again before learning to walk. Growth requires patience, perseverance, and faith.

Your body and mind are doing the same. They’re seeking stability among the unfamiliar. When you feel discomfort, try to meet it with compassion because it means your old ways are loosening their grip, and healing is unfolding. Keep going.

How to Cleanse

Cleansing isn’t just something you do to release toxins from your body. It’s a holistic life practice that serves every part of your being.

As you cleanse your mind, body, habits, and environment, think about the thoughts that weigh heavily on your mind, the physical clutter that frustrates you, and the things you tell yourself you should do more or less of.

Cleansing might mean cleaning out your pantry, interrupting negative self-talk, or taking a walk instead of scrolling. It could mean choosing silence over noise, or stillness over constant doing.

Here are some suggestions to help you along this journey:

Cleanse Your Mind

  • Begin your day with three slow, intentional breaths before reaching for your phone.
  • Journal about one limiting belief or worry you’re ready to release.
  • Quiet mental noise by meditating, taking a quiet walk, or just sitting in silence.

Cleanse Your Body

  • Drink plenty of purified water to support natural detox pathways.
  • Eat light, whole, unprocessed foods.
  • Prioritize restful moments during the day and 8 hours of sleep.

Cleanse Your Environment

  • Open your windows and let fresh air circulate.
  • Clear a small space (a cabinet, drawer, countertop, or even your car)
  • Replace one product in your home with a cleaner, non-toxic alternative.

Cleanse Your Habits

  • Reduce multitasking and give your full attention to one thing at a time.
  • Create an evening ritual that puts your mind and body in a restful state.
  • Simplify your routines to focus on what truly supports your wellbeing.

Cleanse to Make Space

You can’t rush transformation, but you can nurture it. You don’t force a seed to open after planting it in soil. You create the right conditions for it to sprout, grow, and blossom. It knows what to do without being coerced—and so do you.

You have an inner knowing that is more intelligent than all the knowledge you can find online, in books, or from experts. When you create space and offer gentle support, your mind and body will guide you to what you need most. Trust yourself.
