Built for Healing: Inside the Facility That’s Redefining Supplement Manufacturing

Behind the Scenes with Mikel Lemke, Global Healing’s Plant Manager
Here’s a not-so-fun fact: most supplement brands don’t make their own products. They hand everything over to contract manufacturers that produce supplements for dozens (sometimes hundreds) of different brands. That means the people behind the label often have no real visibility into how the product was made, how clean the facility was, or what shortcuts were taken to save money.
At Global Healing, we believe you deserve to know exactly what you’re putting in your body and where it comes from. That’s why we built our own state-of-the-art manufacturing facility from the ground up. Every detail was designed with your health in mind.
Quality starts with clean, traceable ingredients, but there’s so much more that goes into making the best supplements on the market – the culture, the people, and the standards that shape every single capsule, powder, and liquid we make.
We don’t outsource. We don’t cut corners. We don’t just meet industry standards. We set our own, higher ones.
In this exclusive conversation, Global Healing’s Plant Manager, Mikel Lemke, shares what goes into building a truly clean manufacturing environment, why company culture matters just as much as equipment, and how in-house production helps us deliver the highest quality supplements.
Tell us about what went into designing and building Global Healing’s manufacturing facility in Phoenix, Arizona.
We were very adamant about using building materials that didn’t emit any VOCs [volatile organic compounds] or other toxic chemicals. There weren’t many options back in 2017 when we moved to this location, so it took about six years to complete.
We use a magnesium oxide board, called JetBoard, as an alternative to traditional drywall. We re-engineered non-toxic, VOC-free grout and epoxy flooring, which took about two years, and we use non-toxic, VOC-free paint on the walls.
We have one of the most powerful air purification systems. The air conditioning units have a little device inside that emits controlled levels of hydrogen peroxide and hydrogen molecules, which helps keep the air free from mold, bacteria, and allergens.
All the lights on the manufacturing floor are full-spectrum to mimic natural sunlight and minimize exposure to blue light.
We really went above and beyond to make this facility a place where health and healing can thrive. We want our employees to be happy and comfortable as much as we want to make the best possible products we can.
Global Healing has seen a lot of growth in recent years. How do you keep things running smoothly with limited space?
In 2024, we were doing around 160,000 units a month. In 2025, we’re holding an average of 240,000. It’s just about being open to new opportunities. Around here, it’s never, “Oh, I don’t know if we can get to the next step with all the same stuff we already have…”
We get very strategic and identify areas that might be a bottleneck or a constraint, and figure out what we need, whether it’s better time management, shifting things around, or eliminating something altogether.
In 2025, we are opening a second facility in Texas. It’s really going to allow us in Phoenix to get better production numbers for encapsulated and powder products, while the new facility takes over liquids.
How do you maintain such high quality standards?
We have a lot of different standard operating procedures (SOPs), quality SOPs, production SOPs… A lot of training goes into it, so we set the expectation, but I really have to give all the credit to our team. It’s not just about following the SOPs, it’s a culture.
We know how many people we’re helping, so that’s a huge motivator. Our team has the will to succeed, and they just go out there and get it done. If you’re willing to learn and you show initiative, you can accomplish anything. That’s the mindset most – if not all – the employees have.
How do you keep that culture alive while maintaining productivity?
When hiring a new person, I would say 90% of the time it’s more about their mindset. You could have all the experience in the world, but at Global Healing, a negative mindset can negate all of that. A positive outlook is going to help you succeed, and it’s going to spread to others. So we really look for that culture fit first.
After that, it’s really about how we take care of our employees. People have a lot going on outside of work, and there’s a lot going on in the world. If we notice someone isn’t showing as much of that positive energy as they once did, we approach that with care.
We look out for everybody, and we want to help them get back on the right track. So, we’ll sit down and have a conversation – ask them what they need, how we can support them, and how we can get them back to a more positive headspace. If they need some personal time to regroup, we gladly give them that time with pay.
Our philosophy is that if we respect our people and take care of them, they’re going to respect us and give back to the company. That’s what we see here.
What sets Global Healing apart when it comes to manufacturing operations?
I think the biggest differentiator is the motivation to help people, which means putting out the best products possible, no matter the cost. Not to say that money isn’t an aspect, but it’s definitely not our main focus.
We’ve developed several processes that take longer than what’s typical in our industry. The maceration process, for example, takes several days. We’re okay with that because we know that we’re producing a high-quality product.
When it comes to encapsulated and powder products – a lot of other companies will use flow agents that aren’t really beneficial for the end consumer. They help with cost savings and reduce waste, but, again, that’s not our main focus. We tend to have a little bit more product loss, which means a little financial loss. We’re okay with that because we feel that we’re giving the best to our customers.
We also keep our facility as pristine and organized as possible. Every time we do a tour, I hear people say, “Wow, your operation is so clean!” I have to give credit to the whole team. We do a lot when it comes to cleaning and organizing on a daily basis.
We believe that if we focus on quality, the rest will follow. And that’s what we see here.
Which certifications does Global Healing prioritize?
There are quite a few. There are the health certifications we’re required to have as an operating food manufacturer because supplements are considered a food item. All of our employees have their Food Handlers card, and we take different courses, like Lean Six Sigma, to optimize waste management practices.
We’re cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practices) certified. We are USDA Organic certified, so each year we have an accredited certifier tour the facility and make sure we’re doing everything correctly to remain compliant. We’re Kosher certified as well, so we have a rabbi come through and inspect the facility quite often.
We’re also monitored by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), so we have inspectors from the city of Phoenix come here randomly to make sure we’re disposing of waste properly.
How does the manufacturing team contribute to Global Healing’s mission of Pure Transparency?
We have all the documents to back up everything we do here, and we require the same from our vendors. We’ve run into issues before with vendors claiming their ingredients are organic or providing us with falsified documents, and we go the extra mile to double-check everything.
Aside from doing our due diligence, it’s really about how open we are. We don’t shy away from questions. We’ll answer, and we’ll answer truthfully. We have open communication with our customers, and I feel like that puts a lot of people at ease. We have nothing to hide, and everything is documented, so no one has to just take us at our word.
If someone feels like they need to see things for themselves, we’ll happily set them up with a tour of our manufacturing facility.
You deserve to know exactly what you’re putting into your body, where it comes from, and how it’s made. If you have questions, ask us. Our Customer Success Team is here to give you real answers. No runarounds. No vague claims. Just Pure Transparency. (Se habla Español).
