How Global Healing Ensures Purity, Safety, and Quality with Rigorous Testing

Chris Green, Global Healing’s Quality Manager, takes us behind the scenes
More people are turning to supplements to support their health, but most have no idea what they’re really putting into their bodies. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has certain requirements “that help ensure the identity, purity, quality, strength, and composition” of a supplement [1].
However, the FDA “generally does not approve dietary supplement claims or other labeling” before a product hits the shelves. As a result, many products on the shelves today are under-tested, over-marketed, and not exactly what they seem [2] [3] [4].
Global Healing was built on the promise of pure transparency when it comes to testing, documentation, and manufacturing. From day one, our mission has been to empower individuals with the information they need to take control of their health.
In this exclusive Q&A, we speak with Chris Green, Global Healing’s Quality Manager, about what pure transparency looks like behind the scenes.
The supplement industry has exploded in recent years. From your perspective, what do most people not realize about how supplements are made?
I’ve been in the industry for 11 years, and I’ve worked at several other companies. In my previous experiences, quality was treated as a nuisance – they only do things because they need to.
Here at Global Healing, quality is everyone’s responsibility, and it’s something we live by on a daily basis. It’s a culture that you do not see often in this industry.
What’s stopping companies from being more upfront about their processes?
The regulations aren’t very specific. For example, we are required to confirm that our vendors are sending us what they say they are, but extensive testing and verification are not required. Some companies will just do FTIR (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy). If it matches, they’ll release it. However, there could be starches, carriers, or other plant parts in there that they aren’t aware of.
Testing is expensive. Global Healing spends millions every year on ingredient verification and purity testing above and beyond what’s required, and other companies might not want to do that. I have never had an issue with getting the Global Healing executive team to understand that we need to do more testing. As a quality manager, it makes my life a lot easier. We are 100% confident in something before we release it.
What does transparency look like in daily practice at Global Healing?
We are willing to share anything our customers request – and we do every day – whether it’s a lab report from our testing centers or information on our ingredients. I communicate with customer service, and they deliver the information to the customer directly.
What kind of testing does Global Healing perform?
When we receive a raw ingredient, we do three forms of ID minimum. We do organoleptic (sensory testing), FTIR, and HPTLC (high-performance thin-layer chromatography). HPTLC is where we catch any adulterants, fillers, or unwanted plant species.
Every raw ingredient is sent out to test for microorganisms, heavy metals, identification, potency, starches, and other adulterants. We have everything checked for maltodextrin content (a common filler). Some suppliers don’t disclose processing aids, so we check for those, too.
Our quality team reviews all documentation before an ingredient is weighed out, before it’s blended, before it’s bottled... We do in-process inspections, and we do a full lot inspection when the batches are complete.
We have another lab that tests our finished goods for heavy metals and microorganisms, and to verify potency/label claims.
What steps should consumers take to ensure their supplements are safe and effective?
I implore everyone to call the manufacturer and ask for test results. We, as consumers, shouldn’t blindly trust labels. Brands are allowed to word things a certain way that is deceitful and still within regulations.
If someone has a question about a Global Healing product, how easy is it to get answers?
All they have to do is call or email our Customer Satisfaction Team. Our contact information is easy to find on our website, and our phone number is on every bottle. Whether someone wants test results for a specific batch of one of our products, information about an ingredient, or has general questions about our processes, we will get them the information they need.
You deserve to know exactly what you’re putting into your body, where it comes from, and how it’s
made. If you have questions, ask us. Our Customer
Success Team is here to give you real answers. No runarounds. No vague claims. Just Pure
Transparency. (Se habla Español).
