Top 5 Tips to Lose Belly Fat
First of all, don't worry about doing lots of sit-ups and crunches because they are not really going to attack the fat around your belly. Yes, they will help tone and strengthen your core muscles, which are vital for you being in tip-top shape, preventing back pain, and stabilizing your core musculature. But most people think that if they do hundreds of those every single day that they're gonna mysteriously melt away their belly fat and that's just not the case.
1. Try Intermittent Fasting
One of my favorite ways to start losing fat fairly rapidly around the belly is intermittent fasting. Intermittent fasting is just skipping a meal and giving your body more time to either go into ketosis if you're on a keto-based diet or a low carbohydrate diet, giving your body more time to create more energy. Creating more energy actually burns fat because the digestive process is going to take or steal most of the energy that you have.
People are eating three, four, or five meals a day. People are also snacking throughout the day! Think about it — just one meal, a big heavy meal, can take about 90 percent of your energy from your body every single day. Intermittent fasting is skipping a meal, maybe eating from noon to 6 p.m. every single day, and then letting your body heal, letting your body generate energy, and letting your body burn that fat. That is one of the most effective methods.
2. Do A Liver Cleanse
Number two is liver cleansing! I love liver cleansing. People ask me all the time what's the fastest way to burn fat or lose weight. Well, you always have to take two steps back and look at the root cause. Why are you not able to process fat? Why are you not able to burn fat effectively? That's a telltale sign that your liver is congested.
In my research, I've found that the majority of people’s livers are only functioning at about 15 to 20 percent. I know that is shocking! The liver is what processes fats, breaks down fats, detoxifies the body, and breaks down nutrients, proteins, and carbohydrates — everything you require to survive, to be energetically viable, and to live in a balanced state.
I highly recommend a liver cleanse. A liver cleanse cleans the liver and that way you can jump-start your metabolic pathways and your fat-burning abilities that your body naturally has.
3. Take Cold Showers or Baths
The vagus or cranial nerve connects your brain to your gut and affects your feeling of fullness. One way to stimulate your vagus nerve is a cold shower or bath. You're starting to hear more and more about how I'm a fan of Wim Hof. I do the Wim Hof breathing method and take cold showers. I also splash cold water in my face. Believe it or not, cold baths or cold water can actually stimulate your fat-burning ability.
That's something that's easy and free, and it's something that you can do every single day when you get in the shower. Instead of taking a hot bath, choose to take a cold bath! There's a lot of information out there, so I highly recommend you looking into cold therapies.
You know there're even companies right now that are popping up where you can do cryotherapy. You can go to these chambers and get some cryotherapy done. You’ll be reducing your stress levels, which you might not think has anything to do with burning fat, but it actually does.
4. Reduce Your Stress Level
When you're stressed out or under anxiety, especially during the holiday season, or when things slow down, people eat two to four times as many foods as they normally do. Most people are eating in a sympathetic (or stressed) state. Now a sympathetic state means your digestion comes to a stop.
So, when you're looking at how food is processed or at the number of fat, sugars, or carbohydrates you're consuming, all of those have to be broken down properly. This is a secret that most people are not talking about. It all starts in the mouth. It starts by chewing your food until it's a liquid before you swallow it and if you just do that one thing, you're already going to be burning extra fat.
5. Avoid Simple Carbs & Sugars
My next tip is to start avoiding carbohydrates and sugars — and that doesn't mean fruit. You know you should eat lots of fruit all the time because fruit is powerful for you! What I'm talking about are refined carbohydrates and sugars that are very addicting to the body. So my rule of thumb is to try your best to completely avoid bread, pasta, rice, and potatoes.
Not only that but also refined sugars. Cut down on your refined sugars, and also avoid artificial sweeteners. Believe it or not, in rat studies they feed them artificial sweeteners to gain weight very rapidly, and a lot of that weight comes around the belly area.
If you're drinking any diet drinks or eating any sugar-free things, make sure that it does not contain any type of artificial sweeteners.
Points to Remember
Belly fat can be difficult to remove, but give some of those tips above a try to reduce it! Remember to always look at the root cause. You might want to try a liver cleanse or incorporate intermittent fasting into your routine! Also, determine if find yourself eating in a stressful state.
