At Global Healing, our mission is to provide a source of unbiased education for health-conscious consumers. We believe that every individual has a right to choose, for themselves, what they put into their body. Genetically-modified organisms, or GMOs, are becoming increasingly prevalent in the world's food supply, and many people today are completely unaware that they are consuming these genetically-altered Frankenfoods. Society has become an unconscious laboratory Guinea pig, undergoing a mass experiment to determine the safety of GMOs. What is understood about GMO food, however, is painting a clear picture as to where worldwide health is heading. Currently, GMO food continues to grow and we, as individuals, may not have a way to stop their use in today's agribusiness. We can make our voices heard and reclaim our right to know whether or not we are consuming potentially-hazardous ingredients. Global Healing has made a donation to Food Democracy Action! to support the GMO labeling of foods in the United States. Other areas of the world are way ahead of us, with many nations like Australia, Denmark, and the United Kingdom requiring labeling of GMO foods. In fact, 64 countries now require labeling for GMOs.
This past year, Vermont achieved a no-strings-attached GMO labeling bill, one that is being challenged by the Grocery Manufacturers Association. Activists in states like Colorado and Oregon are also fighting for GMO labeling, with Monsanto fighting their actions every step of the way.Fortunately, you can make a difference by donating to the cause. Your individual donation to Food Action Now! helps to fuel an effort to support a bill that will make labeling GMO food a requirement in Oregon and Colorado. This way, people can have the freedom to choose for themselves what they consume. While eating food that is certified organic is the best way to avoid GMOs, many people may find that they can't adhere to this practice 100%. With mandatory GMO labeling, which requires very little effort on the part of manufacturers, we are one step closer to protecting our health and the health of future generations.
